What’s a good way to value coins before donating them?

I want to donate part of my coin collection to a local museum or school. How can I get a fair idea of their value for tax purposes or just for my own records?

Most modern coin identifier tools can detect standard silver compositions once they recognize the coin. They usually show both collector value and melt value, which is useful when silver prices fluctuate. It’s still smart to verify with a magnet or acid test for questionable pieces, but for known types it’s quite reliable. I always note the results and compare later. One free and practical coin value checker I’ve been using for silver-related checks is available here. coin value checker  – it helped me separate actual silver coins from clad ones in my collection without needing to buy extra equipment right away.
